Spandex is an elastic fiber (often blended in small percentages) that gives fabrics stretch and recovery without adding much weight. You’ll commonly see it built into knits like rib, interlock, and tricot, which change how supportive or smooth the stretch feels.
Different Materials for Different Feelings
Spandex behaves differently depending on what it’s paired with. Blends with nylon/polyamide feel cooler and sleeker, polyester blends tend to feel more stable and easy-care, and cotton or viscose blends lean softer and more breathable. When you need maximum mobility, look for 4 way stretch.
